The creator and founder of Beach Rock Art, Lucinda McKendry, has been capturing the magic of beach rocks for 10 years or more. Inspired by nature in general, she was specifically amazed by the eons of time and information held within these rocks. By the stories they tell and all they can teach us on such subtle yet powerful levels.
The oldest in-place Earth rock is thought to be from the Acasta Gneiss in the Canadian Shield. Scientists use dating techniques on the zircon crystals in the rock, determining the age of this rock to be about 4.0 billion years.
This causes one to postulate about all these rocks have seen, heard, felt. The wisdom of such lengthy existence on earth, surely has invaluable information embedded within it. If only we could extract that information. Or, can we?
Some Indigenous traditions suggest that rocks are sentient. As Paula Gunn Allen of the Laguna and Sioux Tribes writings suggest; we are not ‘close’ to the land, we ARE the land.
Living in a world where we primarily use verbal language and technology, we have lost the muscles for the more primal and intuitive ways of absorbing and processing information. Therefore, one may say this information of our more ‘original form’ has sadly been lost. And lost with it, is humanity’s health, vitality, connection and solid wisdom.
The intention with this art is to bring that wisdom back to speak to us, and with it, healing. Repairing our minds, our bodies, our communities and mother Gaia herself. It’s here for those who can listen to that place that was born in the dirt, illuminated from the stars and felt in everything in between. We like to think of this art as a ‘visual pharmacy’. Much like sacred geometry and mantras have been revered by the ancients and still have a place in many practices today… this art penetrates where other modalities may not be able to reach. These powerful persuasions are the past, present and particularly the future of wellness.
It takes an Indiana Jones type courage to step out into the supposed emptiness that is actually not empty at all, but filled with communication on all sides. It is this communication that our cells are made of and therefore they understand and respond to it. Sit and take in what these pieces have to offer you. This spectacular art not only brings the beauty of nature into your environment to be enjoyed, but also the eons of wisdom in the story of each piece. Just listen.
